As we have progressed through week 2, many maps have poured in! Some of the products submitted are shown below in the photos. Also during week 2 we took our States & Capitals Test. Of the ones submitted as of Friday afternoon, my classes are averaging an 87% on the test after 103 submissions. That is a phenomenal average and exceeds our 75% mastery expectation. IF you have not earned a 75% or higher on the test, RETAKE IT. 75% is the expectation, my friends. If you have not taken it yet, get it done : ). We also did an activity pertaining to Theories of American Migration where you had to evaluate and summarize 4 different sources! Next week you will begin learning about and examining the various Native American cultures as well as some of the more advanced Ancient American Civilizations such as the Aztec, Inca and Maya.

Week 1 is in the books for the first year of Lake Mountain Middle School!!! How awesome is that as we have started the history of our awesome school and done things that have never been done before on this scale in the State of Utah??? So cool! After our first week, here is all you have accomplished: 1. You told me what makes a good teacher a great teacher (your responses were AWESOME!). 2. You identified your learning style and what I can do to help you learn better this year. 3. You practiced the skills of sourcing and identified the best source and why across 6 different Historical Questions. 4. You learned that most of the States in the US are named in honor of Native American tribes. If you haven't done the map yet, it's all good! You will turn those in the week we get into the school : ). Get em done before then! 5. You, just like me, learned how to use Canvas and have seen how slick it CAN be! Below, I generated a WORD CLOUD that sums up what YOU ALL told me makes a good teacher a great teacher! So awesome! You will have opportunities this year to generate word clouds like this, too! They are easy to do and fun to create! I will walk you through the process, so don't be intimidated by it. I enjoyed reading and responding to every single response from each of you. Tomorrow, we start week 2 in Canvas and I look forward to reading your responses on the discussion as well as seeing you excel on the different assignments available. |
AuthorMy name is Captain Danny Horne. I am going into my 12th year of teaching for the 2019-2020 school year. I have a Masters Degree from BYU in Educational Leadership, a Bachelor's from UVU in History/Military Science and I am endorsed to teach Special Education (taught it for 5 years), Gifted & Talented (A.L.L.), Coach, and to be an Administrator in schools. In other words, I am more than qualified to do what I do. I'm close to being done with a second Master's Degree, but have put that on hold as I explore Doctorate programs. I speak Polish, some English, love learning and speaking Spanish with students and I'm learning Italian because ...why not? I am also the Varsity Head Coach for Westlake Lacrosse, which is a great honor! I get to do two of my passions in life outside of being a husband and father: Teaching and Coaching. Archives
