OPEN GYM & FIELD
UPDATED: Beginning Tuesday, January 7, we will begin holding OPEN GYM & FIELD PRACTICES for any and all boys interested in playing lacrosse in the Spring. The OPEN GYM & FIELD PRACTICES will be held every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Westlake High School and Lake Mountain Middle School from 4:30PM-6:00PM, weather permitting. It is strongly recommended that boys plan to attend these open opportunities to develop their lacrosse skills, lacrosse IQ, strength and conditioning. Open Gym & Field will end on Thursday, February 6th. In the event weather is not conducive to field practices, boys and parents will be updated promptly through e-mail, announcements at school, VNN and/or GroupMe chats. If we are unable to practice on fields, we will coordinate with the high school to use the weight room for additional lifting sessions or use Coach Horne's classroom at Lake Mountain for film study. We are currently working out a plan with REAL Salt Lake to use their indoor facility for our Wednesday field practices. Our schedule is as follows for Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays:
*Tuesdays = Lifting @ Westlake 4:30PM - 6:00PM *Wednesdays = Open Field Practice @ Lake Mountain OR Indoor Facility 4:30PM - 6:00PM *Thursdays = Lifting @ Westlake 4:30PM - 6:00 PM
For our lifting sessions, boys may NOT bring their headphones and are expected to follow the routine provided to them. The routines have been developed for position-specific training. NO FREELANCE workouts will be permitted.

START DATE, TRYOUTS & PRACTICES
We will officially begin our season on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 24TH, 2020. Tryouts will be held on Monday and Tuesday of that week and on Wednesday rosters will be posted. It is anticipated that we will have 50 players selected to fill out a Varsity and JV team.
-Monday, February 24th @ Lake Mountain Middle School from 4:30PM-6:30PM -Tuesday, February 25th @ Lake Mountain Middle School from 4:30PM-6:30PM
Once rosters are finalized, we will begin our mandatory field practices on Wednesday, February 27th @ Lake Mountain Middle School. Practices will be held from 4:00PM-6:00PM. In order for boys to tryout, they MUST be REGISTERED & CLEARED on Register My Athlete by Monday, February 17th 2020. Below is the anticipated practice schedule for Spring. These dates, times and locations can change at the coaches discretion or due to circumstances outside of our control (i.e. weather). These changes will be communicated immediately.
Boys are expected to attend EVERY PRACTICE. As coaches, we realize that things can come up that may prevent you from practicing. In those circumstances, those MUST be communicated directly to Coach Horne and one additional assistant coach in the same conversation/e-mail. All home games as currently scheduled will be played at Westlake High School in the stadium. JV will play first @ 5PM and Varsity will follow @ 7PM. Boys are expected to be at the field 70 minutes prior to home games beginning and ready to go 60 minutes prior to game start time. When team captains are selected, captains will determine game day attire to wear at school for home and away games. All away game start times are TBD and will be communicated immediately once solidified with the hosting schools. Per district policy (2017), boys are expected to ride the bus to and from all away games. Any exceptions must be cleared with the administration.
WESTLAKE LACROSSE TEAM FEES
The fees to participate in lacrosse for the 2020 season is $600 and the allocation of these fees is outlined below:
All student/athletes will be expected to abide by all Westlake High School, Alpine School District and UHSAA rules and guidelines. All actions will be dealt with individually and fairly to all athletes. Refer to the Westlake Way and THUNDER values to gain a greater understanding of what will be expected of coaches, players and parents during the 2020 season. As members of the Westlake lacrosse team, we collectively commit to showing to ourselves and others HOW GREAT WE ARE. Mohammed Ali, one of the greatest boxers of all time, was often quoted as saying, “Imma show you, how great I am!” As members of the Westlake Thunder Lacrosse team, we commit to doing just that in all we do and say. Win or lose, we do so with dignity and respect. We will thank the referees after every game and shake the hands of our opponents, thanking them for helping us to grow and develop. We will thank our teachers, parents, school leaders, and community leaders for the help, guidance, and mentoring they provide to us. At Westlake, we adhere to a standard of excellence and this standard of excellence will be followed by all.
ATTENDANCE & GRADE CHECKS
Attendance in class is essential to the success of each student athlete. Grade checks will take place regularly during terms 3 and 4. Any student athlete with NC’s or F’s will be ineligible until the grade is corrected or made-up. Consistent with the Alpine School District's policy on grades, any student with more than one “F” or a GPA less than a 2.0 will be ineligible to play until grades are corrected.
THE WESTLAKE WAY & THUNDER VALUES
Westlake High School coaches are united in promoting the Westlake Way. The Westlake Way is as follows:
Power of Team
Throughout the season, we will promote the Westlake Way and our THUNDER values. Our THUNDER values serve as our code of conduct on the Westlake Lacrosse team. Those values are as follows:
T - Tenacity H - Honor U - Unity N - Nice D- Discipline E - Excellence R - Respect
Coaches, athletes and parents are expected to strive to abide by these values and demonstrate these values in the community, on the field, off the field, in the stands, in the classroom and outside the classroom. In all that we do, we expect excellence, true to the mission of Westlake High School that reads, “LUX ET VIRTUS.” Or, “LIGHT AND EXCELLENCE.” These values, in combination with The Westlake Way, will impact, inspire and empower us to become positive role models to rising generations.
Boys will have the opportunity to get sponsors to help cover some of their fees to play. These documents were made available to students at the parent meeting and in Coach Horne’s classrooms. It is to be clearly understood that boys should NOT solicit businesses for sponsorships. $250 of the initial sponsorship will go towards two banners to be placed on the fields at all home games. Each year following, 100% of the sponsorship will go towards the program. Boys should use current contacts or connections to secure their sponsors. Up to $450 of the sponsorships brought in by players will go towards covering their team fees, with the remainder going into the Westlake Boys Lacrosse program.
